Talurit Group unveils TALULOCK®: the future of resin socketing

Talurit Group is announcing the launch of TALULOCK®, a next-generation two-component epoxy resin for socketing wire rope terminations. Built on over seven decades of wire rope termination expertise and many years of dedicated research and development, TALULOCK® is type-approved by DNV and meets the performance requirements of EN 13411-4 and ISO 17558. It is made in Sweden, contains no carcinogenic constituents and keeps for up to 30 months without cold storage.

Resin socketing is one of the most trusted ways to terminate a wire rope, and the people who carry it out deserve a resin that is as safe to handle as it is strong under load. It should be straightforward to ship, store, mix and pour, with a shelf life long enough to keep waste to a minimum. Talurit® set out to make that the standard.

Performance has been verified independently. TALULOCK® has been tested to deliver 100% termination efficiency: a correctly socketed termination is as strong as the wire rope itself. It holds DNV type approval under DNV-CP-0095 for pourable compounds used in rope socketing and DNV-OS-E304 for offshore mooring steel wire ropes (certificate no. TAK00002SF), and it meets the performance requirements of EN 13411-4 and ISO 17558. TALULOCK® suits applications from offshore mooring and subsea lifting to crane, marine, industrial and heavy-lift rigging.

Operator safety was one of the starting points. TALULOCK® contains no carcinogenic constituents, and no respiratory protection is required for routine mixing and pouring in a well-ventilated area under normal use. Pre-portioned two-component kits remove the need for measuring, and a clear step-by-step process helps every competent operator achieve a correct, repeatable result. The formulation also allows a socket to be cast in stages: the layers bond together, so a cone can be topped up with a separate kit without affecting the integrity of the termination.

TALULOCK® is just as practical to stock. It has a shelf life of up to 30 months at storage temperatures up to 30 °C, with no need for climate-controlled warehousing or temperature-controlled shipping, and the resin component is non-flammable, so distributors can hold it in stock and respond to short-notice orders.

Taking on the industry’s problems and solving them by innovation is how Talurit began. In 1948 the company introduced mechanical splicing and the original turnback ferrule, giving the industry a faster, more consistent way to terminate wire rope that is still relied on worldwide. More recently, the patented Talurit® T-LOC™ steel reinforcement made turnback ferrules suitable for grade 2160 high-tensile wire ropes with solid or wide-angled thimbles, using the dies customers already own. TALULOCK® follows the same approach: challenge what holds the industry back, invent the answer and deliver it.

Victor Lindh, CEO of Talurit Group, comments: “TALULOCK® started with a vision: a resin socketing solution that is safe in every respect, from shipping and storage to mixing and putting the termination to work. We saw the market moving towards sustainability and greater care for operators and the environment, and we knew we could make a real difference. TALULOCK® is the premium choice, the green choice and the smart choice, and the latest proof of what Talurit® stands for.”

TALULOCK® strengthens Talurit Group’s position as the true full system supplier. Ferrules, fittings, sleeves, buttons, terminals and sockets; swagers and dies; cutting, wire rope handling and testing machines; and an extensive Lifting & Safety Supplies range – customers can source the complete solution from one partner. That means one point of contact, one standard of quality and engineering support that covers it all. TALULOCK® is made in Sweden, and every kit is backed by the group’s application expertise and its worldwide network of subsidiaries and authorised distributors.

Luke Staten, Vice President of Talurit, Inc., adds: “Our customers often ask three things of a socketing resin: that it can be trusted when the load goes on, that it is safe for the people using it, and that it is easy to ship and keep in stock. TALULOCK® answers yes to all three, with DNV approval behind it from the very first day. And because we also supply the sockets, customers can get the socket and the resin from one supplier.”

TALULOCK® comes in 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 cc kits at launch, where the size refers to the volume of mixed resin each kit produces, and larger custom kits are available on request. Instructions for use, Safety Data Sheets and technical data can be downloaded at www.talurit.com/talulock. Talurit’s support does not end at delivery. An extensive instructions-for-use document already guides operators through every step, from preparing the rope to the final scratch test, and more dedicated training and instructional content for TALULOCK® is on its way.
