Talurit® Swaging Systems

STS – Steel Turnback Ferrule

SKU: STS 05 – STS 90 Category:

The STS carbon steel system is the given choice for work in tough environments. It has high resistance to corrosion, temperature, and mechanical wear. The Talurit® STS ferrule has an extra solid design giving a sturdy termination with increased resistance. The STS ferrule system is type-tested according to EN 13411-3, fully complying with the safety requirements, and guarantees at least 90% efficiency of the termination.

Talurit® STS ferrules are commonly used in the Nordic offshore, fishing and aquaculture industry.

The now extended range of Talurit® carbon steel turnback ferrules STS, can be used on general-purpose SWR, as well as on high-performance SWR with outstanding demands, e.g. in offshore applications. STS ferrules are available in a comprehensive range from size 5 up to 90.

The STS ferrule system allows to replace a grand part of Flemish eye terminations and due to its quick and efficient splicing operation, it offers a huge potential for cost savings for sling makers. efficiency without compromising on safety.

Key benefits:

  • Enduring – Heavy-duty design increases resistance to wear, corrosion, and high temperature.
  • Cost-efficient – Minimal investment as die sets cover a wider range, approx. 50% compared to slim steel systems. Solid design resulting in extended sling lifetime.

The Talurit® STS ferrule has a solid design which results in a powerful termination that remains safe and reliable even in the harshest conditions. The ferrule is made of special carbon steel that is specially treated to ease the cold-forming process. STS ferrules are typically used for applications that require resistance to mechanical wear, high temperatures, and corrosive environments.

The carbon steel ferrule system STS is type-tested according to EN 13411-3, the European standard for ferrule secured eye terminations (FSET), and fully complies with the safety requirements of the standard.

Typical applications of carbon steel ferrules are when the termination is exposed to corrosion, higher temperature, or abrasion, e.g., dragging. This system is also an alternative to the Flemish eye because it has all the mentioned benefits of a carbon steel ferrule but the efficiency and simplicity of a turnback system.

A common use of the STS ferrule is aquaculture and fishing, where the termination is exposed to saltwater. To better protect the steel wire rope against galvanic corrosion and prolong the lifetime of the wire rope, the STS ferrule is the superior choice!

Premium ferrules & fittings for mechanical splicing of wire rope

When it comes to wire rope assemblies, ferrules and fittings play a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and strength of the system as a whole.

Ferrules are metal sleeves used to terminate wire ropes by crimping or swaging them onto the rope. These sleeves are typically made of materials like aluminum, copper, or stainless steel, chosen for their durability and corrosion resistance. Fittings, on the other hand, refer to the end attachments, such as hooks, eyes, or links, that connect the wire rope assembly to other components or structures.

In wire rope assemblies, ferrules are used to secure the ends of the wire rope by compressing them tightly around the strands, creating a strong and reliable termination point. Fittings are then attached to these terminated ends to allow for connections to be made with other equipment or structures. This combination of ferrules and fittings ensures that the wire rope assembly can withstand heavy loads, vibrations, and other environmental factors.
