Talurit® Swaging Systems

UM – Aluminium Turnback Ferrule

SKU: UM 09 – UM 90 Category:

The UM (Ultragrip™) ferrule has a reduced diameter compared to the T ferrule after pressing. Due to cost considerations, the UM ferrule can serve as a cost-effective substitute for the T ferrule at wire rope grades up to and including 1960. UM ferrules are conveniently stocked in sizes ranging from 09 to 90.

The UM aluminum ferrules, also known as Ultragrip™ ferrules, have a specially designed profile that meets the European standard EN 13411-3 (FSET) and the Japanese standard for turnback ferrule or ferrule-secured eye termination. These ferrules are manufactured from seamfree extrusions, extruded seamlessly over a mandrel using aluminum alloy EN AW-5051A as per EN 573-3.

Applications:
The UM ferrule and the K ferrule are suitable for basic applications with bright or galvanized single-layer steel wire ropes with round strands up to fill factor 0.60 and grade 1960. The rope lay types allowed are Ordinary or Lang lay. For fiber core wire ropes larger than 60 mm, the maximum rope grade is 1770. Wire ropes must adhere to EN 12385-4 and 5 standards.

Important Points:

  • The UM and K ferrules have a smaller diameter after pressing compared to the T ferrule.
  • For cost efficiency, the UM ferrule can be used as an alternative to the T ferrule at wire rope grades up to and including 1960.
  • UM and K ferrules are readily available in sizes ranging from 10-90 in stock.

Premium ferrules & fittings for mechanical splicing of wire rope

When it comes to wire rope assemblies, ferrules and fittings play a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and strength of the system as a whole.

Ferrules are metal sleeves used to terminate wire ropes by crimping or swaging them onto the rope. These sleeves are typically made of materials like aluminum, copper, or stainless steel, chosen for their durability and corrosion resistance. Fittings, on the other hand, refer to the end attachments, such as hooks, eyes, or links, that connect the wire rope assembly to other components or structures.

In wire rope assemblies, ferrules are used to secure the ends of the wire rope by compressing them tightly around the strands, creating a strong and reliable termination point. Fittings are then attached to these terminated ends to allow for connections to be made with other equipment or structures. This combination of ferrules and fittings ensures that the wire rope assembly can withstand heavy loads, vibrations, and other environmental factors.
