The origin of our company dates back to the late 19th century when Franz Rohland was one of the first in the world to manufacture steel wire ropes. As Franz handed over the leadership to his successor and son Herman Rohland, the wire rope manufacturing became the primary pillar of the enterprise.

Under Herman’s guidance, the manufacturing processes were refined to ensure unmatched quality in every strand of steel wire rope leaving their facilities. Building upon the experience of his father Franz, Herman increased their manufacturing capacity and he earned the company an esteemed reputation in the region.

Gerhard Rohland, son of the rope manufacturer Herman Rohland, was running a larger rope store and a rigging shop in Leipzig, Germany. Due to the lack of skilled workers during World War II, Gerhard developed a groundbreaking technique for mechanical splicing of steel wire ropes using ferrules.

This innovative approach involved the utilization of a metal sleeve being pressed together over the wire rope in order to secure it. Gerhard saw the great potential and he knew that this method could be the solution that would outshine traditional manual splicing in terms of both speed and safety.

By the end of the war, Leipzig was invaded by the Soviets and East Germany became the Russian zone. At the age of 46, Gerhard Rohland with his family made the difficult decision to leave everything behind and flee to a different country, seeking refuge in Sweden. In Gothenburg on the west coast of Sweden, he and his family started from scratch with little knowledge of the language and very few belongings.

Gerhard Rohland started Skandinaviska Talurit Aktiebolag

In 1948, the present company was started on a small scale in Gothenburg by Gerhard Rohland. With simple means, he was able to begin doing business around his knowledge of mechanical splicing of wire rope. The name of the registered company was Skandinaviska Talurit AB. The very first facility for the firm was a small office in Långedrag at Viktoriagatan 26. Långedrag is located on the west side of Gothenburg.

Shipping and handling of cargo became the main business to start with. The revolutionary method of mechanical splicing of steel wire rope saved time and increased safety in this industry. In the late 1940s and during the 1950s, the European shipping industry experienced a significant period of growth and transformation.

After the devastating effects of World War II, countries across Europe were in dire need of rebuilding their economies and restoring trade connections. The shipping industry played a crucial role in this process, serving as a vital link for trade and commerce between nations and continents. At the time, wire slings were an essential component in maritime operations. They were widely used by shipping companies to ensure safe and efficient cargo handling and transportation of goods.

After many years of hard work, a phase of international expansion followed. Key licensing agreements were signed with companies like Cable Covers Ltd in the UK and Jones & Laughlin in Pittsburgh, US. The business relocated to larger facilities. Gerhard acquired his patent in multiple countries and started to register the trademark Talurit® across the globe. The new splicing method for steel wire ropes saw rapid success, boosting exports significantly during the 1950s.

In the 1960s, the company experienced another phase of significant growth. Initially moving again to a larger building before deciding to construct its own facilities in the western part of Gothenburg. Bernhard Rohland, the current owner, worked for his father at the time and improved the product range by introducing various swagers and wire rope handling machines. In 1969, their own facilities were built in Västra Frölunda to accommodate the expanding company, while the ferrule warehouse remained primarily located in the toll-free zone at Gothenburg harbor.

In 1971, Gerhard Rohland retired from his role as Managing Director, passing the legacy onto his son, Bernhard Rohland. The company commemorated its 25th anniversary in 1973 with a dinner for customers and employees, celebrating its successful growth.

Recognizing the potential for further expansion, Bernhard decided to re-work and improve the in-house manufacturing. This initiative led to the construction of a new workshop and significant investments in turning and milling machines over the following years. A decision that laid the groundwork for the company's commitment to providing premium and comprehensive mechanical splicing systems for wire rope confectioners and users.

Bernhard Rohland progressively expanded the network of international distributors, with exports playing a major role in the company's revenue. The first ventures into Asia occurred in 1975 and soon led to many important partnerships.

The 1980s marked a period of significant transformation for Talurit AB. The facilities in Sweden were expanded to handle the growth. The longstanding partnership with the Daiko Corporation in Japan led to the establishment of Talurit Japan Corporation as a division of Daiko.

By 1988, Geoff Clegg Ltd was appointed as the distributor in the UK. This proved to be a valuable addition to the Talurit® brand. To align with its expanding global presence, Skandinaviska Talurit AB underwent a name change to Talurit AB in acknowledgment of its more international focus and dedication to serving customers worldwide.

In 1990, Gerro GmbH was established in Germany by Talurit AB, a strategic decision made amidst uncertainty over Sweden's potential entry into the European Union. This move laid the foundation for what would evolve into the Talurit Group that exists today.

During the early 1990s, a rigorous quality control system was introduced, culminating in the attainment of the ISO 9001 certification in 1994, a milestone that has been successfully upheld through annual reviews since then. The year 1998 marked a significant milestone with the celebration of the company's 50th anniversary. It was also the year when Thommy Andersson assumed the role of Managing Director at Talurit AB. Subsequently, in 1999, Talurit UK Ltd was established in collaboration with Geoff Clegg Ltd.

In the early 2000s, Talurit's global expansion accelerated. Talurit UK Ltd was established in 1999 in partnership with Geoff Clegg Ltd. By 2006, Talurit AB gained full ownership of Talurit UK Ltd. In 2009, Neil Cooke took over as Managing Director of Talurit UK Ltd, coinciding with the acquisition of a new warehouse and office in Barnsley, UK. This marked the company's first step in developing its own facilities for future growth, with the new building covering nearly 1000 square meters.

During this period, Talurit AB supplied a heavy-duty swager to W. Giertsen in Norway, enabling them to set a Guinness World Record by creating a wire rope sling with soft eyes using Talurit ferrules in just 24 minutes. This achievement showcases the efficiency of Talurit's products and dedication to delivering high-quality solutions that meet industry standards and customer needs.

The early 2010s saw Talurit Group's expansion into China and Singapore. In 2011, a representative office was established in Ningbo, China, which later evolved into Talurit Machinery Ningbo Co., Ltd. in 2012. Simultaneously, Talurit Pte Ltd was formed in Singapore with Gimex Pte Ltd in 2015, under the leadership of Nicholas Oh. This region has become a key market for Talurit® products, focusing on sales and service in Southeast Asia.

In 2015, significant facility expansion took place in Germany, increasing the factory space to 3400 square meters. The installation of solar panels proved to be a beneficial investment both financially and environmentally. Additionally, Talurit AB successfully acquired the remaining trademarks for full control of the Talurit® brand, a long-awaited milestone.

Furthermore, in 2017, Talurit UK Ltd relocated to a spacious 3250-square-meter warehouse following substantial growth in previous years.

The year 2022 saw the establishment of Talurit, Inc. in Delaware, USA, with Jason Ruby assuming the role of General Manager, overseeing operations in Warminster, PA. Thommy Andersson retired as Managing Director of Talurit AB, with Victor Lindh succeeding him as Managing Director and CEO of the expanded Talurit Group comprising five subsidiaries.

Revamping its marketing and branding strategies, the company modernized its corporate identity to mirror its progress and future vision. By enhancing its digital presence and launching new marketing campaigns, Talurit aimed to tap into new markets and broaden its customer base.

In 2022, a new sales record was achieved by both the parent company and its subsidiaries. Significant investments made in the early 2020s improved production efficiency through automation, including the integration of robotics in manufacturing processes.
