Talurit Group builds a more digital and scalable production site in Germany, led by Charles de Talancé

As Talurit Group continues to invest in its manufacturing base in Europe, the company has appointed Charles de Talancé as Operations and Site Manager at Talurit GmbH in Gottmadingen, Germany, the Group’s main production site for ferrules, fittings, sleeves and end stops. Only a few months into the role, he has set out a roadmap to make the site more digital, more flexible and ready to take on greater volumes, and implementation is already under way.

“Charles brings a rare combination of international operational experience and a genuine drive to modernise how we work, and he does it with real care for the team and for our customers,” says David Ranfalk, COO of Talurit Group. “His appointment is an investment in the future of our production in Gottmadingen, and in the customers who rely on it every day.”

Charles’s mandate is to make Gottmadingen the core pillar of the Group’s production of termination components. “I want to keep our DNA, which is the ability to serve a large customer base with a wide range of high-quality products,” he says. “That requires flexibility in our planning and on our production lines, and that is the path we are taking.”

Talurit GmbH is working to an ambitious roadmap for digital tools spanning HR, planning, manufacturing and warehousing, with the goal of becoming as digital and paperless as possible and of accelerating administrative processes. On the shop floor, where aluminium tubes are sawn, tumbled and engraved into finished ferrules, the focus is on investing in machinery and tooling that steady the production flow and move products smoothly from work centre to work centre. “It is easy to underestimate the supporting flows,” Charles notes, “so we are also looking closely at quality control, scrap and air purification. A ferrule may be small, but producing it to the standard our customers rely on has a lot of depth.”

Charles sees a strong site with clear potential to grow. The opportunity lies in re-engineering production and administrative processes so the site can take on more work efficiently. “Good execution is a major unlock for any company, and it is often underestimated,” he says. “The Group sets the vision globally and we execute it locally at a very high level. That is the culture we want to develop and nurture, so the Group has a solid foundation to grow from.”

He is equally alert to the forces reshaping the industry. Digitalisation, he argues, is changing what moves from manual to automated as the cost of software falls. At the same time, Europe’s aluminium supply is changing, with a growing share of primary aluminium now imported, and new rules such as the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism are raising the bar for transparency on carbon. “Aluminium is at the heart of our products, so a stable and responsible supply matters enormously,” says Charles. “The Group is building strength in that area centrally, and our focus at Gottmadingen is turning a dependable supply into dependable delivery for our customers.”

For customers, the site carries particular significance, as Gottmadingen makes the products that end users ultimately see and rely on. Charles hopes his work will bring greater transparency and visibility across functions, to the benefit of customers. “Our customers are our most important partners,” he says. “Everything we do should be done with them in mind, irrespective of our role in the company. Do that, and very little else should matter.”

Trained as an engineer in France, Charles has built his career in supply chain leadership in Chile, France, the United States and the UK. He has worked in planning, procurement, ERP-driven transformations and contract manufacturing. He speaks French, Spanish and English fluently, and is currently adding German to the list.

Two things drew him to the role. “First, I had worked with David Ranfalk in the past and had always appreciated his integrity, work ethic and vision. Being part of his core team was an opportunity I did not want to miss,” Charles explains. “Second, Talurit has the reach and ambition of a global group, but the teams are close-knit enough that every individual can make a real difference. That is a great mix.”

His leadership style, he says, is to show up with passion and integrity and to remove obstacles for his team. “I am there for the team, not the other way round,” he explains, pointing to clear direction and loyalty as the values he leads by. Outside work, he is kept busy and happy by family life – four children and a dog – and is drawn to sports that demand physical and mental discipline without the adrenaline rush, such as rock climbing, alpinism and deep freediving.

Talurit GmbH is located in Gottmadingen, Germany, and operates as a subsidiary of Talurit Group, a global leader in wire rope and mechanical splicing solutions headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden.
